Ms. Ajeet Kaur Kang was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1994, after articling with the Federal Department of Justice where she prosecuted offences contrary to the Narcotics Contol Act. Ajeet then went on to work as Provincial Crown Counsel (Prosecutor). She has also appeared as Ad-Hoc Prosecutor for the Government of British Columbia, counsel for the Attorney General of British Columbia, and/or as counsel for the Government of Canada before all levels of the British Columbia Courts.
Ms. Kang currently has a multidisciplinary practice with the emphasis in areas of criminal law, immigration and human rights law. She is a member of the Law Society of BC, the Canadian Bar Association and the Trial Lawyers Association. Ms. Kang has served on the Board of Directors of CORSA, a non-profit organization assisting South Asian youth (www.corsafoundation. com).
In October 2005, Ms. Kang was appointed as a Member to the British Columbia Review Board as established under the Criminal Code of Canada. She was appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Attorney General. The Board conducts hearings to review and assess the mental condition and level of threat to the public posed by mentally disordered accused persons to determine whether they should be absolutely or conditionally discharged, or detained in a designated place of custody. Ms. Kang regularly sat on the Review Board in this capacity.
Ajeet is also a former Governor of Law Foundation of British Columbia, an organization that funds programs and projects throughout B.C. that benefit the public in the following areas: legal education, legal research, legal aid, law reform, and law libraries.
